Between the Alps and the Padana plain, Lake Como is caracterized by a big variety of landscapes and settlements. The lake is surely the prominent asset in the whole area; 51 km long, 146 km surface area, 410 mt its deepest point and it is 200mt over the sea.The only island on the lake is Isola Comacina, a small strip of land with an interesting past.It borders the province of Milano on the south, the province of Lecco on the east and the province of Varese and Switzerland on the southwest. It is surrounded by high mountains (the highest one is Monte Legnone 2609 mt.), big valleys and sweet slopes. It is caracterized by big cities and small tiny villages stacked up the rocky slopes overlooking the lake. The area has remained the favourite haunt of the selective travellers coming over the alps to visit the Italian heartland for centuries. It has been the destination for an “elite tourism” which started the discovery of these amazing places in the “belle époque “period.
The lake offers great scopes both lovers of the mountains and lovers of the watersports; sailing, kite surf, wind surf, canoa but even quite pathways through the valleys and trekking up to higher grounds. The mild climate in wintertimes and the sweet breeze in summertimes, the lush nature , the blooming periods and the fall’s colours make the lake an ideal destination all over the seasons. We recommend you to visit two amazing places on Lake Como, Varenna and Bellagio.
